Cannabis edibles at The Set Los Feliz.
Gummies, chocolates, mints and cannabis drinks are measured in milligrams of THC, which makes them easy to portion. They also take much longer to kick in than smoking or vaping, so patience matters.
What you’ll find
Our edibles include gummies, chocolates, mints and cannabis-infused drinks from licensed California makers. Some list CBD alongside THC, and labels show both in milligrams per serving and per package.
In California, an edible serving can contain no more than 10 mg of THC, and a package no more than 100 mg. That cap makes it easy to compare products and to take a smaller portion.
Why timing matters
The state cannabis regulator says edibles can take up to two hours to start working and up to four hours to reach full effect. The most common mistake is taking more because nothing seems to be happening yet.
The state’s safe-use brochure suggests starting with 5 mg of THC or less and waiting at least two hours before taking more. You can always take more later, but you can’t take it back.
How to choose
- Check milligrams per serving, not just per package. Many gummies are 5 or 10 mg each, and some products are divided into smaller pieces.
- Look at THC and CBD. Some products pair THC with CBD, and the label lists both.
- Think about format. A drink or a mint can be easier to portion than a large chocolate bar. Read the serving instructions on the package.
Our edibles guide covers timing, dosing and what to do if you take too much.
Keep them away from kids and pets
Edibles can look like ordinary candy or food. Keep them in the original child-resistant package, out of sight and out of reach. If a child or pet eats one, call California Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, or 911 in an emergency. For pets, you can also call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.
