Cannabis vapes at The Set Los Feliz.
Vapes heat cannabis oil into an aerosol you inhale. They’re discreet and quick to take effect. Choosing one comes down to two things: the hardware and the type of oil inside.
Pick your hardware
| Type | What it is | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Cartridge | A small oil-filled tank that screws onto a separate battery | Many cartridges share a standard thread, so one battery can fit several brands |
| Pod | A sealed cartridge made for one brand’s battery system | Pods and batteries must match |
| All-in-one | Oil and battery in a single device, ready to use | Nothing to pair, often rechargeable |
We also carry batteries for cartridges and pods. If you’re not sure what fits, bring your battery in or ask our team.
Then the oil
- Distillate is highly refined cannabinoid oil. Terpenes are often added back for flavor.
- Live resin is extracted with solvents from fresh-frozen plants, which is meant to keep more of the plant’s aroma.
- Live rosin is pressed with heat and pressure, without solvents, from hash made from fresh-frozen plants.
These are industry terms, not legal categories. Our guide to live resin vs. live rosin explains the difference in more detail.
Buy licensed, and go slowly
In 2019, a national outbreak of vaping-related lung injury was strongly linked to vitamin E acetate, found mainly in THC cartridges bought from informal sources. Licensed vapes in California must pass state testing and carry the universal cannabis symbol on the device itself. Never refill or modify a cartridge, and remember that no vaping product is risk-free.
Vapes take effect within minutes. Take one small puff, then wait a few minutes before taking another.
California rules bar vape packaging from calling these devices “disposable” or suggesting they go in the trash or recycling. When one is used up, check your city’s guidance for battery and electronic waste.
